wordless wednesday: locked gates in a cemetary,why?

while i was out on may day, i came across a beautiful church, next to which was a small very well kept cemetery. greek cemeteries are always open for the public, not necessarily to wander around in, but more for the relatives of the deceased to tend the graves
a locked cemetery in crete would be anathema
